Reformation Day 2021
As Reformation Day falls on a Sunday this year, I thought that I might just create a one stop post for all of the posts that have to do with Cranach's Law and Gospel artwork here. Elements of Cranach's Law and Gospel theme can be found as early as 1525, a full woodcut title page in 1528, and the first painting in 1529. This theme would take a central role in the visual culture of the Reformation in woodcuts, painted panels, altarpieces, water fountains, stove tiles, chests, and more. Below are some of my previous posts on the subject, which was central to my dissertation.
