3rd Sunday of Easter - 1 Peter 1:24-25

This is a reposting of a graphite drawing (adjusted) based upon the 1 Peter 1:24-25 quotation of Isaiah 40:6, 8. As this 1 Peter text is fittingly assigned for the Easter season. In this drawing, the flowers show the ephemeral nature of their beauty in the foreground. This is the analogy to all humankind. Yet, the Word of the Lord remains forever. It does not wilt. It does not pass away. The Risen Christ steps forth from the tomb on Easter morning carrying the standard of victory to never die again. The Easter lilies springing forth from the tomb symbolize a lasting beauty and life that does not fade. Christ remains forever. And according to John 1:14, He is the Word made flesh. In this 500th year anniversary of the beginning of the Reformation, one could be reminded of the slogan of electoral Saxony, VDMA: Verbum Domini Manet in Aeternum (The Word of the Lord Remains Forever). The word of good news of which Peter speaks will never perish because Christ will never die again.
